2012 Sewing Project: May

* Originally blogged at Woah, Baby! *

Squeakin' in in the 11th hour, here is May's dress, which is actually a romper. Modified a bit from the pattern on Make it, Love it. If I was going to make it again I'd make a few more changes -- the shorts I traced for the pattern are a bit wide in the leg and I think I made it a bit too poufy in the top. But I love the spaghetti straps and criss-cross back.

Note to self: don't try to take pictures of an outfit on a baby 10 minutes before naptime.

Quilting: Look! I made a thing!

A very dear friend of mine is due to have her second baby in just a few days (days!) and I am proud to say that I accomplished my self-imposed goal of sewing a quilt for her, in the theme of her nursery, before baby gets here. I should note here that I have never made a quilt so this was quite an intimidating undertaking. But it came out absolutely amazingly and I love it and I can't wait to see her and give it to her so I can envision that baby boy rolling around on it and sitting on the beach on it and avoiding the grass on it.

The pattern is straight from The Purl Bee and I would honestly say that it took about 6 hours total (spread over a couple of weeks) and was far less complicated than I had made it out in my head to be. And that includes my attempt at machine binding with a less-than-perfect outcome which I ripped out and redid by hand. Because really, it was necessary. (And worth it).

Not bad for a first-timer, eh?

So, how did you spend your extended weekend? Is it too late to ask? Do you have an unhealthy obsession with chevrons?
